The Crit

The Crit is a fast group ride around a roughly square 1 km circuit in the Vanier Industrial Park. There is not much traffic, but the circuit is on open roads and riders must respect the rules of the road, as in any other group ride. In particular, riders must not cross into the oncoming lane of traffic (the 'yellow line' rule.) There are no stop or yield signs on any of the corners.

The Crit will last 50 minutes plus three laps. We will award points and have results to keep the motivation up, but the main idea is to have a fun group ride. Riders can sit out for as many laps as they want at any time. So, don't worry about getting dropped - if you get dropped, you can sit out until you are rested and then get back in. (Riders who are sitting out must come back to the designated 'pit' area at the start/finish so that the peleton can expect you when you get back in.)

Points will be awarded to 1st to 3rd place on the final lap (1st to 5th if I can manage it). There will also be several prime laps at various times during the middle of the Crit, and points will also be awarded to 1st to 3rd place on prime laps, though not as many as for the final lap. Results will be determined by total number of points.

Because you can sit out as long as you want, whenever you want, the Crit a good way to test yourself in a fast group ride without worrying that you'll ride home alone. But you should have experience with group rides already - this isn't the place to learn how to ride in a group.

Remember to bring $2 and a licence.
